In addition to a new computer core, the vessel also utilizes bioneural gelpacks in place of the slower and less effective isolinear chips. The vessel is controlled by a single Trojan Drop ship computer core, which affords greater processing power and speed. There are several experimental configurations implemented into the new Lorimar Class Runabout. In addition, to Lorimar's innovative approaches to several key design changes, he also implemented some design ideas suggested by Advanced Theoretical Technologies Unit engineer Matthew McLaren. The sleeker, state of the art design borrows elements from the latest shuttle craft, Delta Flyer prototype, and traditional Runabouts. This experimental class is everything the current Danube Class ships are plus much, much more. This project quickly took on a life of it's own as the CEO Robert Lorimar struck upon the idea of implementing several new technological developments and design changes into an entirely unique Runabout design. with a significant shortage of available Runabouts throughout the fleet as a result of losses sustained during the Federation Civil War, it was decided that the Engineering crew of the USS Boudicca would replicate and assemble a replacement for the Danube Class Runabout. A supplemental pod equipped with micro-torpedoes or a extended sensor suite can be dorsally mounted to the exterior of the Danube class runabout. With the loss of a Danube class Runabout during a a mission to infiltrate an ancient alien planet killer called the Doomsday machine, the USS Boudicca found itself short on its auxiliary ship compliment.Mission specific pods are carried between the cockpit and the aft cabin. The Danube class Runabouts are highly adaptable.Computer Systems: LCARS Controlled Isolinear Circuitry Computer Core.Dimensions: 23.1 meters (L) x 13.7 meters (W) x 5.4 meters (H).The Danube was designed to be one of the more versatile small craft in the Federation Fleet, and as such she will likely be in service for a long time to come. Along with the modules the a Danube class runabout can be equipped with a roll bar to carry mission specific equipment. Some examples include science laboratories, crew quarters for extended away missions, and photon/quantum torpedo bays. The Danube class’ mission profile requires her to be largely customizable, and as such any of various interior “modules” can be outfitted to the runabout. Small square viewscreens mounted within the forward corners of the cabin are used as communications displays as well as Master Systems Displays. The cockpit of the Danube has stations for up to four crewmembers. Ideally, the Danube class is piloted by two crewmembers, although one can suffice. The Danube class was instrumental in discovering many new worlds and civilizations within the Gamma Quadrant, as well as the discovery of the Bajoran Wormhole itself. In its first two years of operational service, the runabout remained the primary method of transport and defense support for most stations. In case of low power, the Danube has a contingency fuel cell to provide an additional emergency supply of power. This unique hull alloy was designed so that lost ships could be more easily detected with something as simple as a differential magnetometer. The hull is made up of a metallic alloy that can interact with magnetic fields. For defense, the runabout is armed with phaser banks, and photon torpedoes. The Danube is equipped with an aft tractor beam capable of towing a vessel at least as large as a Galor Class Cruiser. She is designed to have a maximum speed of Warp 5. The Danube's true innovation is it’s compact, high performance propulsion system. With this flexibility, the Danube Class can easily be utilized as a long range personnel and cargo transport, an agile mobile defense platform, or even a high speed reconnaissance vehicle. The Danube class was first commissioned by Starfleet in 2368 for use as a light, multipurpose craft in situations that demanded a more capable vessel than a standard shuttlecraft, but lower mission profile than a full sized starship.
